Red Cedar Greenhouse
Alton greenhouses have been supplying the amateur gardener with traditional wooden greenhouses since 1921. No one has more experience in designing practical, quality wooden greenhouses for the discerning gardener.
Alton's experience goes back over eighty years and has a well earned reputation for durable, practical and innovative designs.
The superiority of design has been proven in independent tests and our designs are the greenhouses of choice by TV gardeners and garden club members alike.
Superior Design
Alton Greenhouses are constructed from Western Red Cedar, this material is grown in Canada and is famed for its extraordinary durability and resistance to rot. The wood of Western Red Cedar has a very low coefficient of expansion, so it doesn't shrink or swell or warp excessively even when subjected to the changing degrees of temperature of an English climate. The wood is saturated to every fibre with a natural preservative oil which means it's virtually impervious to decay and has extreme durability without additional preservative treatment.
Cedar is the ideal building material for greenhouses and has the added advantage that the reddish natural colour looks attractive in any garden setting. It's construction is more thermally efficient than most aluminium alternatives. The Alton Greenhouse has a ten year frame guarantee, which does not require any additional treatment.
Amateur Greenhouses -
This range has been designed for growing throughout the winter months too. For over-wintering plant cuttings, winter flowering plants or with the addition of a little heating the possibilities are greatly increased. The floor to ceiling glass panels with their sloping sides make full use of the winter sun. These greenhouses are extremely economical to heat because of the natural insulation of the western red cedar frame. This greenhouse is perfect for the summer months too with it's efficiently designed ventilation system. Easy to erect Alton Amateur Greenhouses are available as lean-to designs or freestanding options. All have a practical sliding door with no kerb allowing easy access for wheelbarrows.
