Borough market, located in South London near London Bridge, is a covered market housing a collection of artisan food stalls, traders and specialist food and wine producers. It’s a wonderful place to spend a few hours, browsing the food and wine stalls. It is a bustling & lively market, with a great atmosphere, packed with people generally and full of wonderful food aromas. The stallholders actively encourage visitors to sample their wares and you can taste morsels as you wander around. The traders are very engaging and like nothing better than to tell you the story of their particular food product. It is truly a great source of inspiration.
The range of meats and poultry on offer includes the Wild Beef range (best British organic beef), traditional English pies, the Ginger Pig range, ostrich & other exotic meats from Gamston Wood farm. From further afield, try Basque Pig charcuterie (free range rare breed) and smoked pork sausages from Poland (Topolski).
There are many artisan cheese stalls including a cheese stall dedicated to Swiss cheeses, a Dutch farmhouse cheese specialist offering aged Gouda and Terschelling sheep’s cheese, French cheeses, Welsh cheeses and wonderful English farmhouse cheeses.
Fish specialities include a range from the Hebridean Smokehouse offering peat-smoked salmon, sea trout and scallops. There are also fresh oysters from Mersea Island.
Fresh pasta, Gin & Lime hand made truffles from the Dark Sugar chocolate company, breads, apple pies, cakes and pastries. And of course a range of fruit and vegetable stalls as you would expect, including specialist tomato traders, mushroom stalls and a wide selection of salad leaves and lettuces.
