Nicholas Mosse pottery is created and produced at the pottery studio in Kilkenny, Ireland. It is renowned worldwide for its quality and charm and is, perhaps, unrivalled in the genre of Irish Country Style Pottery.
The unmistakable studio style consists of hand thrown pottery decorated with distinctive patterning on a rich ochre and cream base finished with a smooth clear glaze.
Patterns currently available are -
Apple, Clematis, Landscape, Old Rose and Tulip
Motifs are made up of individual elements intricately cut into sponge which is used to apply colour to the surface.
The designs make use of delicate narrow border patterns and illustrative, country style motifs.
‘Apple’ uses bands of small checks (reminiscent of traditional country kitchen ware) bordering a row of warm red apples.
‘Clematis’ shows a rich blue tracery pattern running top and bottom on a lively trailing clematis design.
For children and adults who just can’t resist images of the country, the ‘Landscape’ series depicts soft picture-book sheep in a field of rich green grass and bright blue sky.
The country style is evocative of rural Ireland and all the pieces sit equally well in traditional and modern settings.
A wide range of pieces are available in each of the patterns –
mugs – small and large
jugs – small (cylinder) and medium (traditional)
bowls – small, medium, vegetable and large
plates – tiny, side, luncheon and serving teapot
Also available are two superbly boxed gift sets using the Old Rose design.
‘Coffee Time’ – two small mugs, a tiny bowl and a tiny jug
‘Jug and Bowl Set’ – a tiny bowl and a tiny jug
