Laguiole Corkscrews

The name Laguiole comes from the small village in the high plateau of south central France. These historic designs were the culmination of amalgamating a local working fix bladed knife with a Pyrenean pocket / pen knife. This unique design is what we now refer to as the 'layol'. Further embellishments included the combining of a corkscrew and with the movement of workers from the countryside to the city - as bar staff and waiting on tables - the inevitable refinements placed Laguiole at the vanguard as the tool of choice in this trade.

Corkscrews and sommelier corkscrews are now produced throughout Laguiole in a range of designs and hand made from a wide source of materials including briarwood, ebony wood, horn, rosewood and more especially for the wine enthusiast - Laguiole Château Grand Cru is made from the wood of the barrels from some of France's most famous vineyards such as Saint Emillion and Pomerol.
