The preparations are well under way for the 2013 Notting Hill Carnival, for the past week shops, businesses and houses have been getting themselves boarded up in time for the big weekend…

Portobello Road – the streets are empty and the shops are boarded up – it’s Carnival!

Here are a couple of local tips to get into the carnival spirit…
First up, this year the legendary Mangrove Steel Band will be rehearsing, back to their roots, in All Saints Road – they will be there on Thursday and Friday evenings this week from 7pm onwards – so get down there and soak up the atmosphere to get into the pre-carnival mood…

Notting Hill Carnival 2013 – the sun will shine come and enjoy it!

The Saturday night before carnival there is a real lull before the storm atmosphere in Notting Hill, all the final preparations are made and there is a lovely local event for the children at the St Mary of the Angels church on Moorhouse Road, after the service there’s a little street party – with some nice tunes and dancing. The pub opposite is the Cock & Bottle which is a great local with no pretensions and you can sit outside and watch the fun.
